I'm nothing if not terrible about telling you folks about things at the last minute, right?  So let's not break tradition- I'm going to be heading down to LA this weekend for the Line Weight III show at Nucleus Gallery!  This is a show dedicated entirely to traditional linework- I rarely get to sell originals, let alone six of them, so I'm pretty excited.  Additional details:

  • Just take a moment to stare at that flyer and look at what good company I'm in, I'll wait.  I KNOW RIGHT?  It's daunting.  I'm flattered.  I love all these guys.
  • I'll also be doing a LIVE DEMO at the gallery during the opening on Saturday, which I am not at all terrified about!  You can head over to the Gallery Nucleus twitter if you want to win whatever I end up drawing- I promise I'll try to draw something cool.  Just for you.

Can't wait for this weekend, and hope to see some of you guys there!

Just had to share this! :D

I commissioned my buddy Jean Fioca/HylianJean to sculpt a tiny version of Sparky (my recently-passed boston terrier) for my parents, and she just posted photos of the final piece!  The likeness is uncanny, right down to the upsettingly wall-eyed stare- I had trouble handing this off to the parents and not just keeping it for myself. :P

Costume with Claire Hummel
Length: 00:45:26
Synopsis: On this week’s podcast, we talk to Claire Hummel about costuming, cosplay, style, and more. Claire is an amazingly talented artist and currently a Production Designer at HBO. Claire has a passion for costuming, history, materials, and style, we chat with her about how she found her love of costuming, the importance of reference, her experiences both professionally and personally.

Lindsay from Light Grey Art Lab just posted the podcast we recorded last week about clothing and costume design!  I ramble on about research, inspiration, making cosplay, all sort of good stuff- head on over and check it out if you’re curious. :)

I'm always excited to see cosplay of my costume designs, and this version of my Victorian circus Harley Quinn by Lady-I-Hellsing is no exception- totally blown away by how gorgeous she looks. :)  GO FORTH AND FAVOURITE. <3

So there are a bunch of artists out there doing their own historical Disney princesses, but Joanne Renaud's series (:iconsuburbanbeatnik:) is one of my favourites by far.  I found her after the fact, but she actually started her series long before I did- she has a gorgeous style and one hell of an eye for historical costuming, so if you like what I do then you'll probably like what she does:

Early Victorian Elsa by suburbanbeatnik  Early Victorian Hans by suburbanbeatnik  Tang Dynasty Mulan by suburbanbeatnik Medieval Aurora by suburbanbeatnik Rococo Belle by suburbanbeatnik

Her level of accuracy definitely puts some of my older pieces to shame- she really sticks to her guns where I would often chicken out and take stylistic license.  Go check out her stuff, it'll definitely be worth your while! :D
