I'm trying to do my best to help out the Wolf team with character designs (yes, yes, I *know* I said I'd stop), so I figured I'd post these concepts; I'm especially fond of the far wolf's scruffiness.
I am having serious trouble finding my style for wolves. Can you please help me? I have been practicing and practicing, but somehow they always look the same! I have been studying and using ref, but I don't have a printer! Plus, EVERY time I show my latest wolf drawing to my friend, she ALWAYS criticizes it. And not in a helpful way....She says "It looks weird." And I'm like "How? Be specific." "The Head." "What about it??" "It just looks weird." So see? Even my friends can't help me! Any advice? OH! Plus I want mine more cartoon-like and less realistic. But I want a little realistic flair, like claws I can't draw claws very well, and poses and...Expressions? And accessories?
I can't really help you there besides saying to draw from reference and find your own style. If your friend isn't being helpful, ask around online! There are tons of helpful communities out there willing to critique art in a productive way.
