The Cask of Amontillado by shoomlah The Cask of Amontillado by shoomlah
My finished piece for the Clash of the Classics book! The prompt was to illustrate some iconic conflict from traditional literature and, well, who am I to resist Poe? I've been drawing Fortunato and Montressor in some way or another for years, so it seemed like a good opportunity to revisit some of my older work:

I'll be the first to admit that I bit off a little more than I could chew with this thing- spiritual triptych, an abominable number of elaborately-dressed background characters, like a ton of skulls. Way to simplify, Claire.

I should have copies for sale soon! :D

Claire, all of your work is so stunning, but the detail here is just dizzying -- in much the way you take in the beauty of a room, the costumes, the figures, while whirling uncontrollably at a masque.  So, what I'm saying, is it's quite perfect.  It makes me want to climb inside the picture and look in all the secret corners.  Brava!

Really nice work.  Love the use of the bright colors to counter the dark and bleakness of the story

LOVE THIS! I have to write an essay on "The Cask of Amontillado", and seeing your visualization really emphasizes the contrasting imagery used in the story.
