Station Zero - Postmarked the Stars by shoomlah Station Zero - Postmarked the Stars by shoomlah
My finished piece for Light Grey Art Lab’s upcoming Station Zero show! Proving that LGAL has the best themes for art shows ever, honestly.

The original cover was pretty obtuse, so I read the book to get more meat- kinda cheesy, granted, but it’s Andre Norton! Social issues, sentient animal companions. Pretty solid. I was trying to channel some Moebius/Geof Darrow for the linework, which is a fool’s errand, but it’s something.

You can already buy prints HERE on LGAL’s website- definitely check out the rest of the art in the show, the pieces are INSANE.

My first thought when I opened the page, "Ho, ho! Someone is getting their Geof Darrow on!" So, fool's errand successful.

Oh this is beautiful! I like it much better than the original. I wish more books had such detailed, intriguing work on the covers.

Love the amount of character conveyed in the man here. Also love the design of what I can only assume is a hairless kangaroo bat. Marvelous work!

Dumb question: how does one take part in a gallery showing like this? Are illustrators invited to participate? Are pieces submitted for review? Just curious!

You should check out LGAL, totally! For a lot of their shows they out out a call for artists so anyone can submit their portfolio for review. :)

You've certainly captured the mood of the early books and book covers in the Solar Queen series.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_S...

and also a lot from her other series of the same period.

And I think you're better than Moebius and Darrow for this kind of art.

Great cover but that text is really tough to read . Now I want to go back and read the whole series again .Heart

Looks amazing! But the text needs to be thinner and clearer, the 'a's are (from what I see) basically inverted 'e's so it's a bit confusing. I read: postmorkej the stors. I do love the linework, great job!

Why a 'fool's errand'? :D You did really well: the Darrow vibe is there, and it turned out quite nice! It's impressive that you can try something so different from your usual style and pull it off so well. Congrats!

I have no idea who he is and what Station Zero is but I love his facial expression and the whole lineart. This nose is just awesome. And of course this creature on his shoulder.

Fantastic :) I love how I can always tell when art is yours upon a glance, just by the amount of volume you convey with a line or two
