God I love dagged sleeves. Almost as much as I love slashed ones. I just want to dag and slash everything I can get my hands on.

I've wanted Maleficent to be the first villain in the series for a while now, ever since I made the mental leap between Maleficent's horns and 15th century horned hennins. The time period works out pretty well, actually, since I wanted her to look a little more dated than Aurora's 1480's getup- both houppelandes and horned hennins were all the rage during the early- to mid-1400's, and they make for pretty good analogues to her official costuming.  Sexy stuff.

This proves more than any of the previous pieces that these are adaptations, not improvements. I mean, look at the original Maleficent design- how does one improve on PERFECTION

What I wouldn't give for you to put out the lines to these to allow us to color them.... I would cherish the opportunity to color this!

Hello! I just showed this collection to my friend who's a historical clothes buff, and she's generally impressed with your work. The only thing she pointed out was that in the period for this dress, the buttons on the sleeves would be running on the outside of the arm (from the outside of the wrist and over the elbow) instead of on the inside as seen here. I love this collection and will continue showing it off to my friends. Thanks!
ejcapulet Featured By Owner Mar 10, 2015  New member
Really? I thought that the buttons on the outside thing came around in the 1500's because Queen Elizabeth was grossed out by the common practice of using the outside of a sleeve or cuff as a napkin at meals or as a hankie for a runny nose.  Or was that one of the Edwards?  Now I'm dying of curiosity, so if someone has a reference on that please share!

This is so cool. Love Maleficent and this piece looks like the original pictures from the Brothers Grimm book.

Oooooo... this is all kinds of awesome!  I especially love the details of her outer and under gowns - how they're clearly disparate pieces.  And the use of color is great; the green trim is my favorite!

she looks like that aunt that comes to your house with her six poodles and drinks vodka conspicuously while flirting with your boyfriend/girlfriend

I thought Maleficient could not be more charismatic... Sooooo mistaken °0°
AzalieFinrandi Featured By Owner Nov 28, 2014
She looks *terrifying*. No, really, I actually gasped out loud when I first saw her. She reminds me a bit of Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula here... in a good way. I love the gown, especially the "flames" coming up her sleeves. Terrific job!

this is amazing, but just that look in her eyes is kinda creeping me out...

I apologize if this question breaks any rules, but I am curious, are you considering doing another version of Maleficent based on her appearance and personality from the live action film? It's been on my mind since i saw the movie about a week ago, and i'd really like to know.

I like you.

My compliments for making Maleficent look EVEN MORE like the Queen of Air and Darkness than her original designers did!

(One can only wonder just how long it will take some bright spark on YouTube to pair scenes from the forthcoming Live Action movie featuring the Disney Villainess who set the Gold Standard with songs from 'Wicked' - I have never seen and will hopefully never be obliged to see that musical, so if I can come up with the idea then someone is clearly just counting down the days).

I do so love the way those licking green flames are only really visible when the sleeves flare open. I think Maleficent makes enough dramatic gestures to show those off. <3

Hoooouuuppppppppppeeeeeelllllaaaaaaadddeeesssss for DAYS! On the subject of historical Disney princesses, have you ever thought Princess Leia (it counts! Disney bought it!) looks like an hommage to the crispinette and high necked, gathered sleeve bliaut?

yeh the skin was blue but i think the green is more effective well done

Smitting Featured By Owner Dec 24, 2013
wasn't her skin blue though?
also, are you planning on doing frozen's anna and elsa? if so, which dresses are you going with? elsa's ice dress looks extremely contemperary, and i have no idea how you could keep it recognizable and still 'historical'... but, on the other hand i'd love to see what you could do with all the textures involved. i think you could make it really cool even if it might not be historical.
