Girl, you can't conceal it by shoomlah Girl, you can't conceal it by shoomlah
Finally moving on to the unofficial Disney ladies with Megara! So fantastically simple to research, just put her in a simple doric chiton and spent most of my time researching fabric colours and patterns to see what I could get away with. It kinda looks like she killed Hercules and took his helmet? I'm okay with that.

Nice job on the chiton. Gotta say though, the Greeks didn't really use gemstones in their jewelry... That started more in the late Imperial Roman period, with mostly just pearls.

This picture makes me think of "I Won't Say (I'm In Love)". I haven't even seen this movie yet, but I have the soundtrack and Megara's song is probably the best in the movie. Too bad she isn't part of the official line-up.

Stunning. I love how delicate she looks in it... And you even drew the greek nose!

And I'm totally on board with your alternate ending... The Hercules from the myths was a douche.

i love how you mentioned that it looks like Meg killed Hercules and took his helmet because in the Greek story of Hercules, he is turned mad by a jealous goddess (i think...i forget which goddess) and Hercules kills Megara and his sons (i think he kills his sons.....if i'm wrong then let me know)

You're wrong. Megara kills Hercules when Hercules fights a boar ( I think it's how it's said in english ) but the blood of the beast is poisonous. Megara washes Hercules pieces of clothes in the beast blood to prove he's a hero and when he dresses them he dies.Well his human part dies and he goes to live in the Olimpus where he marrys the godess of youth.

I know I'm not wrong about Hercules' story but there are probably different versions of Hercules. I'm basing it from my textbook that I had to read fro Greek myth. And if you research the story of Hercules most of them say that it was Hercules that killed Megara. I'm not trying to get into a debate with you I'm just basing it off of what I know.

when i saw this was Megara, i was thrilled! always loved greek mythology. i love how everything falls, and the tunic/gown combination they did. very pleased to see she was able to keep her colors...though i honestly kind of miss her ponytail. but the jewelry, everything. lovely and emphatically greek!

The only thing I can't figure is the hair.

:iconcrysa91:

Technically the hair in this picture is rooted in ancient Greek tradition. Women during that time would completely cover their hair with shawls or pile it on top with some form of restraint. Disney used a hair style that would be considered scandalous during that period.

I know that. I don't know how they got it to stay up like that.

According to historians, they braided the bottom and then used an early form of hair combs. Usually the combs were made out of bronze, tin, ivory, etc. It depends on the class of the woman. They also used hair bands that secured the hair. Complex hair weaving techniques were used during  times when obvious hair restraints were out of fashion. The most complicated styles were used in Flanders, Athens, and Rome.

Nothing profound to say. Just love how you married the movie version with the historical Greek pose and style. Love how you captured her moral ambiguity and secretive side so wonderfully. Just love the pose, style, dress, hair, colors, patterns, textures, and folds of the fabric on the whole. You are too talented for words--and yet I try to define your talent with words in every review. ^^;

Actually, Heracles kills Megara and their children. His SECOND wife (married after he completed his twelve tasks assigned as a penance for killing his first family) brought on his death. Since he was Zeus' son, he couldn't technically die. Hera, being the spiteful goddess she is, gave Deianira (the second wife) a shawl that she said was enchanted to keep her husband faithful to he while he was away. It was actually drenched in Hydra venom, which burns the skin. So since Heracles was a demigod, that only tortured him. He had to burn himself on his own funeral pyre to die.
Sorry, I'm Greek.

Depeds of the Myth because In Mythology, The myth depends of the area, and the oral sources. I dont kow (so far) if there is an Oficial Myth, In my vercion the one who gives the wife (In this case Megara) the shawl whas a centaur Killed by Heracles.
