Could not get the idea of a South American medusa covered in boa constrictors out of my head, and so there you have it. Sketched her during a meeting at work and have been slowly finishing it over the past few nights. I really like this as a jumping off point for something- I feel like I could push it even further in terms of design if I wanted to resolve it in a narrative. Or something.

Some little boa head detail shots: [link]

...I'd list all of the different morphs on this thing, but I can't remember half of them.

She is *breathtaking* (and, as a constrictor, that's both literal and figurative!)

Love your work as always! <3

Something to finally combine my bizarre childhood fascinations with both gorgons and Vucub Caquis... sort of.

this is wonderful! you did an amazing job at integrating the different snakes into the image, as well as capturing the weight of the snakes as well. Often times when I see snakes/naga's/etc they seem to be almost floating and it tends to make them look hollow or feel... limp.. <.< best word I can think of to describe at the moment.
Here the snakes clearly have the different angles and shading for the way their muscles can bunch and the way they pull themselves along a certain surface.
The snake pulling over her arm is done especially well in my opinion as well :D

Thanks! There's nothing quite so cool as how a snake moves, so I'm glad you think I've captured it wel.

I think there is actually a Mayan goddess with snakes for hair. Ixchel, goddess of the moon. You can read a little about her at this [link]

Great design. It's actually more authentic than most depictions of Medusa, did you know that?

I haven't read all the comments, so maybe someone has already mentioned this but...

The Greek myth was actually based on an earlier myth from Libya in Africa. It featured a serpent priestess who wore snakes in her hair and would show you your future if you looked into her eyes. The Libyan version wasn't monstrous, just powerful and wise and was in fact worshipped as a goddess. The ancient Greeks were quite sexist and didn't like to hear of a woman being so powerful, so they demonised the story and created their own myth and gave her a name, Medusa.

If you already knew all that, i'm sorry!

You've captured the structure of the snakes really well and I like the way they are all different colours and patterns.

I love gorgons and medusa, I have one in my gallery too :)

Oh my god...this is fantastic! Beautiful job on making their postures etc natural and boa-like as opposed to just snake like, particularily on the bottom two.
